  Solid enough at the back, doing his best to maintain proper defensive position.

  To his credit, he didn't allow Ozil a lot of room to maneuver on his flank, but he offered precious little attacking support until the latter stages.

  Committed throughout, but on one or two occasions he was a little slow to react to the run of his man.

  Manhandled by Hummels as he was brushed aside by the German defender to head in the opener. Good late block on Schurrle though.

  Regularly tried to drive his team forward and looked good beating the first man off the dribble.

  Only showed flashes of what he was capable of in the first half but was more expressive after the break. Saw a well taken volley saved by Neuer.

  Could not do much to stop the constant waves of German possession, while he wasn't much help on the ball either.

  Regular presence defensively and was a good bet to keep possession ticking over during France's best spells.

  Drifted in and out of the game as one or two encouraging runs were punctuated by long spells of inactivity.

  Had one or two shooting opportunities but Neuer and the defence were in the way each time. Not near his most dangerous.Germany

  Strong save on Valbuena's header. Not quite as quick to scamper out of his box as against Algeria, but every bit as confident. Critical late save on Benzema.
• 4B. Höwedes
  Manned the left flank dutifully, pulling off a number of tackles to keep the opposition at bay. Committed defensive display.
• 16P. Lahm
  Looked far more at home in his natural full back position, tracking back well while offering constant support to the attack.
• 20J. Boateng
  Quietly did his job at the back, offering little space for the man on the ball to exploit.
• 5M. Hummels
  Headed his side into the lead with authority and was consistently splendid at the back to boot.
• 6S. Khedira
  Though he wasn't much help on the ball, his commitment and hustle in the middle of the park helped to ruffle a few French feathers.
• 18T. Kroos
  A pinpoint free kick set up the opener for Hummels and he was a steady, if not dynamic, presence in midfield.
• 8M. Özil
  An unremarkable tournament continued with another frustrating display. Saw plenty of the ball but often lacked the will to make something happen.
• 7B. Schweinsteiger
  Consistent in the middle without ever being remarkable. Efficient passing and attentive defensively, though he dealt out a few rough challenges.

  Playing in a wider role, the Germany's top scorer was not a predatory threat but did put in a good shift protecting his full back.

  Tried his hardest to exploit the space and lapses in concentration of the defence but he was often left to feed off scraps.
