LADIES & GENTLEMEN MEET KING ZAMIR OF LOS [@KINGZAMIR_LOS] + NORMAL DUBZ B.T.S PHOTOS
Wagwan people! So We At CRACK360 ( Your Favourite Site :D ) had a chance to interview one of the new school kings Zamir LOS ( Formerly Known As Yung ). In His Interview With Crack360's Seun Badejo (@SeunBadejo) He talked about his career, his SUPPOSED feud with Fresh L DRB and many other things, check it out below
NOTE: The Questions are in upper case
LET ME START WITH THE QUESTION THAT EVERYONE IS ASKING... YOU STARTED YOUR CAREER WITH THE NAME YUNG_KWTF, WHY THE NAME CHANGE?
I wanted a name that would reflect my solo projects better, a name that has a personal meaning, and since Zamir is one of my middle names and it means “music” in Arabic, it seemed just perfect.
WHAT MADE YOU REALIZE YOU WANTED TO PURSUE A CAREER IN MUSIC?
I actually planned on becoming a professional football or basketball player, because I used to be very good at both, but then I got into music, and as I got older, the love for music became bigger than that for sports. But the day I finally made the decision to join the music industry as a recording artist, and pursue a career in music, was when I was on TV for the first time, at Jimmy Jatt’s Jump Off. I wanted to be in front of the camera and perform, and use that as an avenue to touch people with my music, and the messages in my songs.
DOES ANYONE IN PARTICULAR INFLUENCE YOUR MUSIC?
There is no one in particular but for inspiration, I like listening to Kendrick Lamar, King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti and Kanye West.
IF YOU HAD TO CATEGORIZE YOUR MUSIC, WHAT GENRE WOULD YOU CATEGORIZE IT UNDER?
I'd call it Afro-Rap/Afro-Soul/Afro- AnythingThatSoundsLikeGoodMusi cToMe... lol. I can’t really put my music in a box.
HOW DID LOUD ON SOUND (L.O.S.) START?
Bridge and I grew up together, and Tomi and Briss grew up together. When I was 12, I started rapping with Bridge; to have fun, but also to impress the girls. At some point, Bridge and I were looking for a singer. My cousin introduced us to Tomi, and when we recorded together, Briss came to see Tomi. When Briss heard the track, he asked if he can do a verse. And that was it. We got along really well, personally and musically, so apart from our own individual projects, we also wanted to put out music as a collective. That’s how Loud On Sound happened.
WHATS PRESENTLY GOING ON WITH THE TEAM?
When we went off to university back in 2012, we all moved to different parts of the world, so it’s not that easy to record together these days. We’re all doing our own thing individually but we record music together whenever we get the chance. For instance, Bridge just arrived in Nigeria last week, so we’re back in the studio recording fresh stuff. We’re working on a few singles right now, so L.O.S. is alive and kicking and you’ll get to hear new material soon!
WHO WOULD YOU SAY IS THE CLOWN OF THE GROUP
We like to think that we’re all funny! (But some are funnier than others... )
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE SO FAR?
The car crash in 2013, when Bridge, Briss, Tomi and I got into a car that was hijacked by the driver and then ran off a bridge... When you see the crashed mountain of metal you can’t even imagine that we came out of the car alive. We had a lot of plans as L.O.S. last summer, and we were about to release more material but when the crash happened, it really shook us to the bone, so we had to take a break.
HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH NEGATIVE PUBLICITY OR PUSHY MEDIA?
I don’t let things come too close to me, and I don’t really read any of the gossip that’s posted online. It’s best to keep your cool and know that the Entertainment industry thrives off bad publicity. So far I’ve been lucky though!
A WHILE BACK YOU HAD AN ONLINE FEUD WITH FRESH L DRB, WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT?
It was a simple misunderstanding that was blown out of proportion. We’ve been good for a while, and I’ve been in the studio with Boj and Teeze most of the summer, so me and Fresh are cool.
RUMOURS HAVE IT THAT THE 3RD VERSE OF #NORMALDUBZ WAS AIMED AT FRESH L, HOW TRUE?
Ha! I knew someone would pick up on that verse and find out what it means. But no, it doesn’t relate to Fresh L. As I said, we’re good and there is no reason for beef.
DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ANY LABEL OR ENDORSEMENT DEALS?
Loud On Sound is a label, so I’m signed to my own label, so to speak. As for endorsement deals... we’re in talks with a few parties, so let me not say anything yet till we’re ready to announce it. Exciting brands though, that much I can say!
IF YOU COULD PERFORM WITH ANYONE IN WORLD, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Michael Jackson and Madonna, hands down.
THE LADIES ARE ASKING IS THERE A QUEEN ZAMIR?
Hehe... wouldn’t you want to know...
WHAT NEXT AFTER NORMAL DUBZ, SHOULD WE BE EXPECTING AN ALBUM OR MIXTAPE ANYTIME SOON?
I’m working on a mixtape to be dropped later this year. To be honest, I have recorded so much material over the past year, it’s been tough to select what will go on the mixtape. I keep recording fresh tracks all the time, but I still love the older stuff too, so it’s been hard to decide. As for an album, I’m taking my time. Certainly not this year.
WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS YOUR BEST SONG EVER?
I don’t think there is such a thing as a “Best Song Ever”. Every song has its moment and its context. I do have a few favourites but they are all unreleased... You definitely have something to look forward to! Out of the released material, I’d say the Bad Guy P Remix with Sarkodie and Banky W. I produced it and hearing everyone deliver on the track was terrific.
AS A BAD GUY HOW DO YOU RELAX?
I like chilling with my friends in the studio, listening to Neo-Soul music. That’s if we’re NOT recording in the studio...which hardly ever happens!
WE NOTICED HOW YOU'RE ALWAYS SWAGGED OUT, SHOULD WE ATTRIBUTE THIS TO A PARTICULAR STYLIST OR YOU HANDLE YOUR WARDROBE YOURSELF
When it comes to styling, I’m blessed to work with the best of the best: Zed-Eye (@zedeye). She’s been with me and L.O.S. since 2012, so I’m in good hands when it comes to Music Videos, Photo Shoots and Red Carpet events. I do believe I’m pretty good on my own though, and I’ve learned a lot about style over the past few years. Zed-Eye has certainly brought a whole new dimension to how I see fashion.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 3 YEARS AS AN ARTIST?
I want to bring my music to the rest of the world, and especially other African countries. I’m working on a few collaborations right now and I’m hoping that once my music becomes more available in other countries, I would be able to collaborate with some of the best artists out there. All in all, I make music with a message, so I want my message to be heard, and the more people listen, the better! There is so much talent in Africa, and I want to push my music globally, so I can make Nigeria and Africa proud.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME KING ZAMIR, GOOD LUCK.
Thanks for having me!
